Central Gurudwara Sahib in Gowliguda Marks Centenary With Marathon at Hussainsagar

More than 5,000 participants from across Telangana gathered at the HMDA Grounds at Hussainsagar on Sunday for a centenary run marking 100 years of the Central Gurudwara Sahib in Gowliguda.

The event was organised by the Prabhandak Committee of Central Gurudwara Sahib in Gowliguda under the theme "Run for Faith, Run for Sewa". The gathering brought together people across various age groups and communities to celebrate the historic milestone of the gurudwara.

The morning activities commenced with a warm-up and Zumba session, following which prominent Sikh personalities flagged off the participants. The event featured 3K and 5K runs alongside a family walkathon, drawing participation from children, youth, families, and senior citizens.

Participants in the 3K category ran along the route proceeding towards People's Plaza, while the 5K route extended further towards Jal Vihar before returning to the HMDA Grounds. Organisers explained that the run served as both a sporting activity and a broader community celebration, carrying the centenary message of "One Family, One Panth, One Sangat, One Community and One Historic Celebration."

Founded in 1926, the Central Gurudwara Sahib in Gowliguda has stood for a century as an essential centre for spiritual, cultural, and community life for Hyderabad's Sikh community, promoting principles of faith, equality, brotherhood, and sewa.

The marathon represents the launch of a year-long series of religious, cultural, and community events scheduled throughout the centenary year. Major programmes planned for September include Akhand Path Sahib, which involves the continuous recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib, as well as Kirtan Darbar devotional music programmes and Amrit Sanchar initiation ceremonies.
