Cash Van Driver and Sons Arrested for Rs 17 Lakh ATM Theft in Edi Bazaar

The Commissioner’s Task Force (Charminar Zone) and the IS Sadan police have arrested a cash van driver and his two sons for allegedly stealing Rs 17 lakh meant for an SBI ATM in the Edi Bazaar locality of Hyderabad. The theft took place on June 23, leading to a police investigation that resulted in the recovery of Rs 14.55 lakh and the seizure of the motorcycle used in the escape.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Khare Kiran Prabhakar, the primary accused has been identified as Chintala Srinivas, a 42-year-old driver employed with Cleared Security Services Pvt Ltd. Facing severe financial problems, Srinivas allegedly hatched a plan to steal the cash alongside his two sons, 22-year-old Aneesh, also known as John, and 20-year-old Jashwanth.

The incident unfolded on June 23 while cash was being loaded into a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM located at Edi Bazaar. Police officials stated that Srinivas took advantage of the situation and fled the spot with a cash bag containing Rs 17 lakh.

His son, Aneesh, was waiting nearby on a motorcycle to facilitate the getaway. After successfully escaping the Edi Bazaar scene, the father and son met Jashwanth in the Peerzadiguda area, where they handed over Rs 10 lakh of the stolen money to him. The suspects then spent a portion of the remaining Rs 7 lakh.

Following a formal complaint, the Hyderabad Police initiated a detailed investigation. Officers analyzed local CCTV footage and technical evidence, which allowed them to identify Aneesh and subsequently track down and arrest the three accused family members.

During the arrest, the police recovered Rs 14.55 lakh of the stolen money and seized the motorcycle used during the offence. All three accused have since been remanded to judicial custody.
