Cambridge AS and A Level Exam Entries in India Grow 15 Percent

Cambridge International Education has begun releasing the results of its June 2026 exam series, with entries for Cambridge International AS and A Level examinations in India growing by 15 percent compared to the previous year. Worldwide, almost 368,000 students across 3,492 schools received their Cambridge International AS and A Level results today.

India recorded more than 40,000 total entries for the June exam series, representing an 11 percent increase over June 2025 figures. Globally, entries for Cambridge International AS and A Levels rose 5 percent over the past year. The education provider attributed the growth in India to students seeking globally recognised qualifications to prepare for university and the international economy.

Subject choices in India reflected a dual emphasis on English language skills and STEM disciplines. First Language English was the most popular Cambridge IGCSE subject in the country, followed by Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology. At the Cambridge International AS and A Level stage, the top subjects chosen by students were Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, and Business.

According to Cambridge, the flexibility of the AS and A Level qualifications allows students the option to pursue higher education abroad or remain in their home country.

Rod Smith, Group Managing Director for International Education at Cambridge, said that increased interest in A Levels comes as students recognise the value of combining deep subject knowledge with practical skills in a world shaped by artificial intelligence.

Vinay Sharma, Senior Vice President for International Education, South Asia at Cambridge, noted that Indian students are increasingly pursuing education that builds both subject expertise and adaptability for an evolving global landscape.
