BRS Workers Clear Police Barricades to Allow KT Rama Rao Convoy to Reach Kannepalli

High political tension prevailed along the Hyderabad-Warangal highway on Sunday, July 5, 2026, as BRS party workers pushed through multiple police barricades at Pemberthi in Jangaon district and the Raghunathapalli toll plaza to allow the convoy of BRS working president KT Rama Rao to proceed to the Kannepalli pump house.
The police initially halted the convoy at Pemberthi using heavy barricades. Following heated arguments between the authorities and BRS leaders, party cadres forcibly cleared the obstructions, enabling Rama Rao and other senior leaders to continue their journey.
A second major blockade was encountered at the Raghunathapalli toll plaza, where police had parked lorries across the road to stop the convoy. Former Minister and Suryapet MLA G Jagadish Reddy, who had arrived at the scene earlier with a large group of farmers, engaged in a heated argument with the police. During the confrontation, BRS workers rushed to the tollgate and lifted the gates to let the convoy pass.
The BRS leaders later reached Parkal, where Rama Rao garlanded a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar before continuing towards Kannepalli. Despite police erecting further barricades at several locations along the route, large numbers of BRS cadres mobilized to ensure the convoy was not stopped again.
Ahead of the convoy's arrival, police had deployed additional forces along the highway and conducted preventive arrests of BRS workers across Jangaon district.
Speaking to the media at Pembarthi, Rama Rao accused the Congress government of trying to obstruct the visit to hide its failure to utilize Godavari River waters. He claimed that nearly one lakh cusecs of water was being unnecessarily released downstream despite El Nino warnings and drought threats.
Rama Rao stated that water could be lifted directly from the Kannepalli pump house, noting that the Godavari River's water level of 96 feet was sufficient for pumping. He challenged the government, stating that if the Congress administration could not operate the Kaleshwaram project, they should hand it over to the BRS, which would fill all major reservoirs within a week. He also accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of using police to cover up delays in repairing the Medigadda barrage.
