BRS to Launch Protests Over Krishna Water Sharing Issue, Says MLA Jagadish Reddy

Former minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Guntakandla Jagadish Reddy criticised Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy during a media conference in Miryalaguda, Nalgonda, alleging that the state government has remained silent over the diversion of Krishna River water by Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing reporters on Monday, Jagadish Reddy alleged that Andhra Pradesh has been taking up new irrigation projects and diverting Krishna water to its reservoirs in violation of existing water-sharing agreements. He claimed that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy have failed to raise objections against these actions, thereby compromising the interests of Telangana.

Jagadish Reddy further alleged that the Congress government has prioritised political interests over the state's welfare. He stated that the administration has not utilised Telangana’s rightful share of water from the Nagarjunasagar Project, which has adversely affected agriculture across the project's ayacut.

To protest against the government's stance and demand the protection of the state's water share and farmers' livelihoods, the BRS announced a seven-day protest programme. As part of this agitation, BRS working president K. Taraka Rama Rao is scheduled to participate in a large-scale farmers' maha dharna in Miryalaguda on September 3.

Jagadish Reddy also issued a warning to the state authorities, stating that the BRS would organise a 'Challo Nagarjunasagar' agitation if water is not promptly released to the Nagarjunasagar left canal and the Alimineti Madhava Reddy Project (AMRP) canal.
