On June 20, 2026, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders and workers staged a protest and laid siege to the MRO Office in the Cantonment area of Hyderabad. The protestors demanded the protection of eight acres of government land from alleged encroachment and urged the administration to use the land to build 6,000 Indiramma houses for the poor.

The demonstration was led by BRS Membership In-Charge Dr. Manne Krishank. Addressing the gathering, Krishank stated that the eight-acre parcel of land is valued at nearly Rs 800 crore and has been officially recorded as government property in revenue records for several decades.

The BRS leaders pointed out that Congress leaders had previously proposed constructing 6,000 Indiramma houses on this very site. However, Krishank alleged that the local Congress legislator had accepted a bribe of Rs 5 crore to allow private encroachment on the public land.

The opposition party alleged that the land is currently being encroached upon for the construction of shopping malls. BRS leaders asserted that they would not allow government land to fall into the hands of private land grabbers and warned that they would intensify their agitation if the issue is not resolved.

During the protest, Krishank recalled a previous incident on August 19, 2023, when encroachers attempted to occupy the site. At that time, the previous government acted promptly, with the MRO lodging an official complaint, resulting in an FIR at the local police station to protect the property. The BRS accused the current Congress government of reversing this stance and allowing land grabbers to take over.

The protestors demanded that the state government and local officials pursue all available legal remedies to ensure the land is restored to government ownership.

The protest was attended by several prominent BRS figures, including Niveditha, former Corporation Chairman Gajjala Nagesh, and former Cantonment Board members Jakkula Maheshwar Reddy, Anita, Nalini, Kiran, Pandu Yadav, Shyam Kumar, and T N Srinivas.
