BRS opposes proposed 494-acre Bandravirala dumping yard

On 29 June 2026, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Dasoju Sravan raised strong objections to a proposed dumping yard at Bandravirala in the Ranga Reddy district of Hyderabad, warning of a statewide agitation if the Congress government does not immediately withdraw the proposal. Speaking at a protest at the Ranga Reddy district collectorate, Sravan stated that the waste disposal facility would harm the Musi River catchment area and negatively impact 16 surrounding villages.
The protest was organized under the leadership of former Ibrahimpatnam MLA Manchireddy Kishan Reddy. During the demonstration, Sravan accused the Congress government of attempting to convert 494 acres of prime government land into a dumping yard.
Sravan charged the government with bypassing mandatory procedures, alleging that government orders were issued without consulting local Gram Sabhas or conducting necessary environmental studies. He also claimed that local elected representatives had failed to protect the interests of the affected villagers.
The BRS MLC questioned the rationale behind the decision, pointing out the contradiction in the government's plans. He argued that the administration cannot claim to spend thousands of crores on cleaning and rejuvenating the Musi River while simultaneously establishing a waste disposal facility within its catchment area. According to Sravan, the designated land would be better utilized for industrial, educational, and healthcare infrastructure.
Sravan compared the potential impact on the 16 nearby villages to the ongoing environmental and health struggles faced by residents living near the Jawaharnagar dumping yard. He accused the Congress government of ignoring its previous electoral promise to relocate the Jawaharnagar facility, and instead planning a new dumping yard near residential areas.
Reaffirming the BRS's stance, Sravan declared that the party would stand with the local residents until the proposal is officially withdrawn. He warned that the opposition party is prepared to escalate its movement with further protests, road blockades, and statewide demonstrations if the government fails to reconsider.
