BRS MLA Jagadish Reddy Accuses CM Revanth Reddy of Politicising Kaleshwaram Project

On July 12, 2026, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA and former Minister G Jagadish Reddy accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and the Congress government of politicising the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme. Speaking at a press conference at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad, the BRS leader warned that the state could face a severe drinking water crisis due to the impact of a Super El Nino, while accusing the administration of targeting the irrigation project for political reasons.
Reddy condemned the Chief Minister's remarks against the Kaleshwaram project, asserting that the Congress government was pursuing a political campaign at the cost of the state's water security. He defended the project, stating that former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had created a historic opportunity for Telangana through the lift irrigation scheme. According to Reddy, the current government is attempting to discredit the project solely for political gain.
The MLA also criticised the government's response to warnings from retired engineers. He stated that the government was ignoring these experts, who were speaking in the interest of Telangana, and criticised the Chief Minister for reportedly threatening action against them. He further termed the campaign against the Medigadda barrage as misleading propaganda.
During the press conference, the senior BRS leader took strong exception to reported remarks by Revanth Reddy regarding spilling the blood of BRS leaders. Reddy asserted that Telangana statehood was achieved through numerous sacrifices, and stated that BRS leaders are prepared to make any sacrifice for the state and its farmers.
Additionally, Reddy dismissed claims that the town of Bhadrachalam would face danger due to the Kaleshwaram project. He challenged Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy to a public debate on the issue. He concluded by alleging that citing power costs as a reason to avoid lifting water for irrigation amounted to a crime against the state's farmers.
