BRS Leaders and Residents Stage Novel Protests Over Damaged Roads in Telangana

BRS leaders and local residents staged novel protests in Kamareddy and Suryapet on Saturday to highlight official apathy toward damaged roads and severe waterlogging across the region.

In Kamareddy, G Laxminarayana, a BRS councillor from the 46th division, sat in the middle of a flooded street on the Kamareddy-Rajanna Sircilla road to urge authorities to carry out long-pending repair works. Laxminarayana stated that rainwater stagnates on the stretch every year during the rainy season, forcing motorists to navigate dangerous conditions and making it difficult for pedestrians to cross.

According to Laxminarayana, a culvert was supposed to be constructed when a railway bridge was developed in the area, but the contractor did not execute the work. Because the road is situated at a lower level, rainwater and sewage accumulate on the Sircilla road whenever it rains. He alleged that despite repeated complaints and appeals, Roads and Buildings (R&B) and municipal officials have only offered assurances while failing to initiate repairs.

In a parallel protest in Suryapet, BRS cadres and local residents demonstrated along the pothole-riddled main route connecting Tungaturthi to Suryapet. To highlight the waterlogged conditions, activists planted paddy saplings directly into the damaged road and used fishing rods in the stagnant water.

The protesters in Suryapet demanded the immediate commencement of repair works on the Tungaturthi-Suryapet route, criticizing local officials for ignoring commuter hardships.
