BRS files contempt petition against Congress government over 15,774 undisclosed GOs

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has filed a contempt petition in the Telangana High Court against the Congress-led state government for failing to publish thousands of Government Orders (GOs). Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad on Wednesday, BRS leader Errolla Srinivas accused the state administration of violating a direct judicial order by keeping 15,774 government orders hidden from the public eye.
According to Srinivas, the Congress government issued a total of 19,064 GOs during its tenure between December 7, 2023, and January 25, 2025. However, only 3,290 of these orders have been uploaded to the official public domain, leaving the vast majority of 15,774 GOs completely undisclosed. This failure to publish the documents, Srinivas stated, directly defies a previous High Court directive that ordered the proactive disclosure of all GOs within an eight-week window.
The BRS leader expressed deep concern that the lack of transparency violates the core principles of the Right to Information (RTI) Act. He noted that the non-disclosure of specific files, particularly those concerning appointments without Cabinet rank and land-related transactions, has raised serious questions about the state's governance and decision-making processes.
To highlight the shift in policy, Srinivas contrasted the current situation with the actions of the previous BRS administration. He recalled that in 2015, under the leadership of then Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the state government had issued GO No. 4, which strictly mandated the proactive and public disclosure of all government orders to ensure transparency.
The BRS has demanded that the Congress government immediately comply with the High Court's directives and upload the remaining 15,774 orders. Srinivas warned that if the administration continues to withhold these public documents, the officials responsible could face severe legal consequences through ongoing contempt of court proceedings.
