BRS Demands Cancellation of Proposed Raidurg Land Auction Near Durgam Cheruvu

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) deputy floor leader and former minister T Harish Rao has demanded the immediate cancellation of the Telangana government’s proposed auction of 10.63 acres of land in Panmaktha village in Raidurg, near Durgam Cheruvu in Hyderabad. In an open letter to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday, Harish Rao opposed the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) auctions scheduled for August 17 and 21.

Harish Rao alleged that the government was attempting to create third-party rights over disputed heritage land. He stated that the land parcel, located in Survey No. 83/1, had been identified as a heritage site under G.O.Ms.No.4. He questioned the decision to proceed with the sale despite ongoing legal, ownership, heritage, and Waqf disputes surrounding the property.

In his letter, Harish Rao pointed out that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had himself approached the court in 2020 seeking protection for the same land parcel when he served as the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president. He accused Revanth Reddy of taking contradictory stances while in opposition and in power, alleging that the auction was an attempt to hand over valuable public assets worth around Rs 2,000 crore to preferred parties.

The BRS leader also highlighted previous litigation involving the same survey number. He noted that when 6.2 acres in Survey No. 83/1 were earlier put up for auction at approximately Rs 237 crore per acre, the State Bank of India (SBI) approached the court. Harish Rao stated that the matter remains pending before the High Court, making the government's move to auction another 10.63 acres a disregard for ongoing judicial proceedings.

Warning prospective buyers that purchasing the land could lead to future legal complications, Harish Rao demanded a comprehensive examination of heritage, revenue, survey, and Waqf records before any auction is attempted. He urged the government to act as a custodian of heritage assets for future generations rather than pursuing land sales across the state.
