BJP State President N Ramchander Rao House-Arrested in Hyderabad

A political row erupted in Hyderabad on Tuesday after Telangana BJP state president N Ramchander Rao was placed under house arrest to stop him from travelling to Nalgonda.

Rao was scheduled to visit Nalgonda to meet the district BJP president, Nagam Varshit Reddy, and express solidarity with his family. The visit was planned after Reddy's residence was reportedly vandalised and his family members, including his mother, were allegedly assaulted by Congress workers on Monday evening.

The Telangana BJP claimed that the house arrest was a deliberate move to block the state party chief from visiting the district and meeting the affected family. In a statement posted on X, the party accused the Congress government of failing to initiate strict action against the perpetrators of the alleged violence while actively obstructing opposition leaders.

According to the state BJP, Congress workers attacked Reddy's home and physically assaulted his relatives. Rao had intended to assess the situation directly and offer support to the district leadership in the wake of the incident.

The confrontation comes shortly after Rao publicly criticised Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over remarks concerning a ritual in Uttarakhand following Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's visit. Rao had accused Gandhi of engaging in cheap politics and misrepresenting the event, stating that members of the Dalit community had also participated in the ceremony.
