BJP President Nitin Nabin Launches Hyderabad Tour to Kickstart GHMC Election Campaign

BJP President Nitin Nabin launched a three-day tour in Hyderabad to formally kickstart the party's campaign for the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. The visit, which concluded on Tuesday, serves as the party's largest organizational exercise in Telangana this year as it seeks to expand its urban support base.

During his visit to the state capital, Nabin held strategy meetings with booth-level workers and engaged with students and tribal leaders at an open house. He also met with BJP MPs, MLAs, and state office-bearers, inaugurated 10 district party offices, and opened the Telangana BJP State Executive meeting.

The tour is designed to build on the party's significant breakthrough in the 2020 GHMC elections. During that election, the BJP increased its strength from four to 48 corporators, establishing itself as the principal challenger to the then-ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now BRS), which won 56 seats. The AIMIM secured 44 seats, while the Congress was reduced to two.

Addressing party leaders and workers in Hyderabad on Sunday, Nabin targeted regional rivals. "The AIMIM may be a compulsion for the BRS, and a compulsion for the Congress, but the BJP has no such compulsion," Nabin said. He declared that the BJP would work to uproot parties practicing dynastic politics and appeasement, describing the upcoming civic polls as the first step toward establishing the BJP's "politics of development."

The GHMC region is highly strategic for political parties in Telangana, encompassing 24 Assembly segments and five Lok Sabha constituencies. While the BJP struggled to convert its urban support into widespread victories in the 2023 Assembly election, it rebounded in the 2024 Lok Sabha election by winning eight of the state's 17 parliamentary seats.

In response to the BJP's campaign launch, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy challenged both the BJP and the BRS to a debate on governance and manifesto implementation. Speaking in Nalgonda on Sunday, Reddy stated that the Congress was ready to debate the 10-year BRS rule, the 12-year BJP national rule, and the current Congress rule.

Nabin's tour aimed to address organizational gaps through booth-level mobilization and cadre expansion before the municipal polls are officially scheduled. The BJP leader returned to Delhi on Tuesday.
