BJP Leaders Slam Telangana Government Over Arrest of State Chief N Ramchander Rao

BJP top leaders on Tuesday strongly condemned the arrest of Telangana state president N. Ramchander Rao, criticising the Congress-led government in the state for suppressing opposition leaders and using the police force for political ends.

BJP national president Nitin Nabin stated that he spoke with Rao following his arrest. According to Nabin, police unlawfully detained Rao to prevent him from visiting the party's Nalgonda district president, whose residence was recently attacked by Congress workers. Nabin alleged that while no action was taken against attackers of BJP offices and residences, opposition leaders visiting victims were being placed under arrest.

Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy termed the police action undemocratic and an example of vindictive politics. He stated that the state administration was using the police as a political tool to place leaders under house arrest simply for attempting to console victims, rather than acting against those responsible for violence.

Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar also expressed sharp anger over the detention, demanding Rao's immediate release. He questioned why law enforcement was protecting attackers while detaining leaders who were visiting affected party workers, and warned of serious consequences if the state government failed to act.

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dr K. Laxman described the arrest as a diversion tactic by the Revanth Reddy-led government to shift attention away from unfulfilled election promises. He said that denying opposition parties their democratic right to question the administration amounted to an active suppression of democratic voices in Telangana.
