BJP Demands Dismantling of HYDRAA After High Court Orders Removal of Commissioner

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana State unit has officially welcomed an order issued by the Telangana High Court directing the immediate removal of A.V. Ranganath from his post as the Commissioner of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA). Reacting to the judicial directive on July 27, 2026, Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao described the court's verdict as a strong slap to the Congress-led State government headed by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. Mr. Rao further alleged that the current State administration had been functioning in continuous violation of democratic principles.

In the wake of the High Court's ruling, the State BJP chief demanded that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and his government completely dismantle the HYDRAA system. Mr. Rao stated that the agency had turned into an unguided platform for high-handed actions carried out under the official pretext of removing illegal constructions throughout the region.

Elaborating on the impact of the agency's activities, Mr. Rao noted in an official press release that the functioning of HYDRAA had generated significant fear and distress among the general public as well as small farmers. He argued that the government's anti-encroachment drive had strayed from its stated purpose, resulting in harsh enforcement measures that directly harmed ordinary citizens.

Reiterating his party's official stance, Mr. Rao asserted that the BJP had maintained from the very beginning that any system like HYDRAA should not be utilized to act against poor families or small-scale farmers. He accused the State government of misusing the administrative mechanism and resorting to severe excesses, even as official representatives claimed that the agency was operating to protect poor populations.

The call to dismantle HYDRAA and the strong condemnation of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's leadership follow the High Court's direct order mandating Commissioner A.V. Ranganath's immediate removal from office.
