BJP Demands CBI Probe into Allegations Against Expelled AIMIM MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig

The Telangana BJP on Saturday demanded a court-monitored investigation or a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into allegations surrounding expelled All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig in Hyderabad.
Speaking to ANI, State BJP Chief Spokesperson and Media In-charge N V Subash said that the AIMIM's decision to expel Baig on grounds of indiscipline was inadequate. He stated that party action could not substitute for a transparent legal inquiry into allegations involving the sexual assault of a woman and a minor. He urged the State government to make all facts public and ensure there is no political interference in the matter.
Subash stated that expulsion from a political party does not amount to justice and called for an impartial, time-bound investigation. He noted that the timing of the expulsion raised questions, pointing out that Baig had earlier approached the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police alleging that unidentified persons were blackmailing and threatening him over a controversial video.
The BJP demanded that the contents and origin of the video be investigated as part of the formal probe to prevent speculation. Subash also questioned the Revanth Reddy government's stance regarding allegations involving members or associates of the AIMIM, asking whether political considerations were impacting the handling of criminal cases.
Subash referred to previous criminal cases in Hyderabad involving individuals with the surname Baig, clarifying that those were separate matters and should not be conflated merely due to a shared surname. He cited a 2022 case where Hyderabad Police arrested Ibrahim Baig alias Addu and Mirza Omer Baig alias Zubair in connection with an alleged gang rape in the Ghulam Murtuza Chawni burial ground under IPC provisions, along with other cases involving allegations under the POCSO Act.
The BJP's demand followed AIMIM's decision on Friday night to expel Baig from the party with immediate effect. Through a post on X, AIMIM Joint Secretary S A Hussain Anwar announced the expulsion and directed Baig to immediately submit his resignation to the Chairman of the Legislative Council.
