BJP Armoor Town President Arrested After Assault on School Principal Over Urdu Classes

BJP Armoor Town President Arrested After Assault on School Principal Over Urdu Classes

The Telangana Police on Monday, June 29, 2026, arrested the BJP Armoor town president, M Balu, for his involvement in the assault of a school principal at Bharat Chandra High School in Armoor, Nizamabad district. Balu, who was taken into custody late Monday night, was subsequently released on conditional bail by a local court.

The arrest followed an incident on June 27, 2026, when Balu and other BJP workers allegedly manhandled the school principal, Aamir Khan. The confrontation arose after a female teacher at the school taught Urdu instead of Hindi for two days.

Khan, who also serves as an English teacher at the school, had previously stated that the Urdu lessons were introduced for just two days following requests from a section of parents. According to Khan, the school management stopped the classes immediately after another group of parents objected. He noted that Urdu is recognized as a second language in Telangana, but added that the issue was quickly escalated by local BJP leadership.

In response to the allegations, Balu claimed that the school was using the Urdu classes as a cover to teach "kalima and namaz" to the students. Khan defended the teaching of the language based on its status as a state second language. The school management has firmly denied teaching any religious texts to the students.

The incident led the Telangana Police to register two separate cases. The first case was filed against Principal Khan and the school correspondent, Mallaiah, for "promoting enmity between communities." This case was initiated based on a complaint by the Armoor tehsildar, who alleged that the school taught the language without official permission.

The second case was registered against Balu and several others for the physical assault, following a formal complaint lodged by Khan.

On Monday, the BJP called for a town-wide bandh in Armoor to protest the police action. The bandh was observed completely across the town, though local authorities reported that the day passed without any untoward incidents.

Commenting on the situation, Armoor BJP MLA P Rakesh Reddy questioned why Urdu was being taught in an English-medium school and raised allegations regarding religious conversion and funding.
