BITS Pilani and Daimler Truck Innovation Center India Launch SPARK Lab in Hyderabad

In Hyderabad, the Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani, has entered into a strategic partnership with Daimler Truck Innovation Center India (DTICI) to launch the Software, Product, AI Research & Knowledge (SPARK) Lab.

The initiative is designed to promote innovation, talent development, and interdisciplinary research in software, product development, and artificial intelligence tailored for intelligent commercial vehicles. The collaboration aims to establish an ecosystem where academic learning, industry relevance, and technological innovation mutually reinforce one another.

Speaking on the development, DTICI Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Radhakrishnan Kodakkal noted that the evolution of the trucking industry is increasingly driven by digital capabilities alongside traditional engineering. He stated that the future of trucks would be defined as much by software and artificial intelligence as by engineering excellence.

Kodakkal explained that through the partnership, both entities are establishing a platform where academia and industry can collaborate to accelerate technological innovation and help shape the next generation of intelligent, connected, and sustainable commercial vehicles.

Prof. V Ramgopal Rao, Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani, emphasised the institutional impact of the initiative. He noted that the newly launched SPARK Lab is positioned to serve as a catalyst for innovation, interdisciplinary research, and advanced technology development across key engineering and software domains.
