Bike taxi rider arrested for stealing gold worth Rs 10 lakh from Masab Tank home

The Mehdipatnam police have arrested a 28-year-old bike taxi rider for allegedly stealing gold ornaments worth ₹10 lakh from a house in Masab Tank, Hyderabad.

The arrest of the accused, identified as Biyya Shashidhar, was made on Wednesday following a theft complaint lodged on June 30, 2026.

The complainant, 45-year-old Rajitha Srinivas Godari, is a resident of Masab Tank. She approached the police after realizing that gold ornaments had gone missing from her residence.

According to the police, Shashidhar is a resident of New Bowenpally in Secunderabad. He was a friend of the complainant's niece and frequently visited the Masab Tank residence. Through these frequent visits, he became familiar with the layout of the house and noticed where the valuables were kept in the almirah.

Investigators revealed that the accused later visited the house under the pretext of helping Godari sell her car. While asking for the car keys, Shashidhar allegedly entered a room, used the keys available there to unlock the almirah, and stole the gold ornaments.

Following the theft, Shashidhar allegedly sold the stolen jewellery in the Secunderabad gold market. He then fled to Goa, where he spent a portion of the proceeds from the sale.

Acting on specific information, the Mehdipatnam police arrested Shashidhar after he returned to Hyderabad.

During the arrest, police recovered 157.8 grams of gold ornaments, a scooter, and ₹12,000 in cash from his possession. The total value of the recovered property is estimated at ₹10 lakh.

The police have registered a case against the accused, and further investigation is currently underway.
