Bihar City Managers Visit Kukatpally's Nalla Cheruvu to Study HYDRAA Lake Restoration

A visiting delegation of city managers from Bihar, including IAS officers, visited Nalla Cheruvu in Kukatpally on Friday to study lake conservation, restoration, and environmental protection initiatives led by HYDRAA.

The administrative officials were in Hyderabad to participate in the Leadership Development Programme for Managing Urban Transformations, an initiative organised by the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), Hyderabad. As part of their curriculum on managing urban spaces, the team conducted a field visit to inspect the rejuvenation work being carried out on the city's water bodies.

During the tour of Nalla Cheruvu in Kukatpally, HYDRAA officials walked the visiting delegation through the various stages of the water body's transformation. The briefing detailed the initial removal of encroachments from the lake area and provided an overview of the ongoing restoration and developmental activities aimed at reviving the water body.

HYDRAA officials also explained the strategic importance of Nalla Cheruvu in managing rainwater across a heavily urbanised catchment. The lake is situated in a dense locality surrounded by thousands of residential units and widespread concrete infrastructure, making dedicated water retention systems crucial for the area.

According to officials, Nalla Cheruvu provides a critical natural pathway for rainwater drainage, which directly helps mitigate and reduce the risk of flooding in the surrounding Kukatpally neighbourhood. The visiting officials from Bihar appreciated the comprehensive efforts taken to protect, restore, and rejuvenate Hyderabad's urban water bodies.
