Bhatti Vikramarka Accuses BRS of Pushing Telangana into Rs 8 Lakh Crore Debt

Speaking at the Jamalapuram Venkateswara Swamy temple in Errupalem mandal of Khammam district on Monday, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka accused the previous BRS government of financial mismanagement that pushed Telangana into a debt of ₹8 lakh crore. He defended the current Congress government's welfare initiatives, stating that the administration led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is functioning in line with constitutional principles despite severe financial constraints.
Bhatti Vikramarka, addressing the media after attending the Maha Kumbhabhishekam at the temple, alleged that the family of BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had amassed wealth during their tenure. He further claimed that they were using this wealth to run a campaign against the Congress government through various media platforms.
The Deputy Chief Minister criticised BRS leaders for neglecting public welfare and focusing on the interests of a single family, alleging that their actions went against the principles of the Constitution.
Despite the inherited financial challenges, Vikramarka highlighted several key welfare programs being implemented by the current administration. He noted that the Indiramma housing scheme, which aims to eliminate homelessness, has sanctioned about 4.5 lakh houses with an allocation of ₹22,500 crore.
Additionally, the government is supplying fine-quality rice free of cost to 1.06 crore families under the Public Distribution System. Vikramarka also stated that about 53 lakh families are currently benefiting from free electricity of up to 200 units, with the state government bearing a significant share of power bills in several villages.
Regarding transport and education, Vikramarka shared that the finance department has provided ₹10,600 crore in support to the RTC for the free bus travel scheme for women. Furthermore, a free breakfast scheme launched this academic year is currently benefiting 27 lakh students in government and residential schools across the state.
The Deputy Chief Minister also announced that ₹2,216 crore has been allocated for temple development across Telangana, which includes development works in tribal areas.
