Bapujinagar Marks 31st Year of Bonalu Festivities with Grand Processions in Kazipet

The annual Bonalu celebrations of Pochamma Thalli were held with religious fervour and gaiety at Bapujinagar in Kazipet on Sunday night, marking the 31st year of the local tradition. A large number of devotees from across Bapujinagar and surrounding localities of Kazipet attended the festivities, which are traditionally observed on the third Sunday of the Shravan month.

The event, which has been continuing for more than three decades, brought together the local community for an evening of rituals and cultural performances. A grand procession that began at the Pochamma temple served as one of the central highlights of the celebrations. Women carried traditional Bonalu offerings, accompanied by the energetic beats of drums and lively traditional dances performed by Potarajus who were specially invited from Hyderabad for the occasion. Their performances drew significant attention from the gathered devotees.

Another major attraction of the festival was a chariot procession featuring decorated bullock carts. The colourful procession made its way through the main road of Kazipet, visiting several Pochamma temples situated in the locality before returning to Bapujinagar. Throughout the route taken by the procession, devotees assembled to offer special prayers and pay their respects to the goddess.

The celebrations also witnessed the attendance of various political leaders, representatives from different political parties, elected representatives, and prominent local personalities, who participated in the rituals and offered prayers alongside community members.

Local organisers and police officials made arrangements throughout the area to ensure that the large-scale festivities passed off smoothly and peacefully. Organisers noted that the 31st-year tradition continues to stand as an enduring symbol of religious faith, unity, and community spirit for the people of Bapujinagar and the wider Kazipet area.
