Banjara Hills Hare Krishna Golden Temple Celebrates Panihati Chida Dahi Festival

The Hare Krishna Golden Temple in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, grandly celebrated the traditional "Panihati chida dahi festival" on Saturday. The annual event, which is also known as the Chida-Dahi Mahotsava or Danda Mahotsava, drew devotees to the temple to participate in a series of rituals, including the offering of chipped rice and yogurt Prasadam, deity adornment, and a grand evening procession.

The festival is celebrated annually on the thirteenth day of the bright moon in the month of Jyeshtha, which typically falls during the months of May and June. The event commemorates a sacred historical pastime of Sri Nityananda Prabhu and Srila Raghunatha Dasa Goswami. This pastime highlights the spiritual significance of serving devotees as a path to receiving the blessings of the Lord.

The celebrations began early in the morning at the Banjara Hills temple. The deities of Sri Sri Nitai Gauranga were specially adorned with Navavastras, which are new garments, to mark the auspicious occasion. Devotees gathered at the temple to witness the morning darshan and participate in the early prayers.

In the evening, the festivities continued with a grand Pallaki procession. The procession was accompanied by Harinam Kirtans, with devotees chanting and singing as the deity was carried. A central element of the festival was the preparation and offering of the traditional chipped rice and yogurt Prasadam, which was distributed during the event.

Speaking on the occasion of the festival, Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa Prabhuji, the President of the Hare Krishna Movement in Hyderabad, shared thoughts on the spiritual meaning of the celebration. He said the festival shows us the best way to get the blessings of the Lord by serving His beloved devotees.
