B. Ajith Reddy Takes Charge as Hyderabad Metro Rail Additional Managing Director

On Tuesday, B. Ajith Reddy officially assumed additional charge as the Additional Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) at the Metro Rail Bhavan in Hyderabad. An Indian Defence Estates Service (IDeS) officer who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Invest Telangana, Reddy immediately held a review meeting with senior HMRL officials to assess the progress of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-I and Phase-II projects.

This administrative appointment comes at a crucial juncture for the development of Hyderabad’s urban mobility plans. Recently, the Telangana state government and the Central government jointly appointed SBI Capital Markets (SBICAPS) to evaluate a proposed takeover of the Hyderabad Metro Phase-I from L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad. In addition to this evaluation, SBICAPS has been tasked with structuring the financing details for the proposed Phase-II expansion of the metro network.

According to government officials, Reddy’s extensive administrative experience is expected to strengthen overall coordination on the Metro expansion project. His credentials include past service in the Central government, as well as a key tenure as the secretary to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) department.

Sources close to the administration indicated that both the Hyderabad Metro expansion and Invest Telangana are among the top priority initiatives of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The Chief Minister is understood to have specifically entrusted Reddy with the responsibility of expediting both of these major projects during the second half of the state government's current five-year term.

Reddy and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy have a history of working together on local administration. The two previously collaborated when Revanth Reddy represented the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency as its Member of Parliament, during which period Ajith Reddy was serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board.
