Awarapan 2 Sees Strong Box Office Opening in Hyderabad Despite Competition

Emraan Hashmi’s latest release, Awarapan 2, registered a strong theatrical opening, recording robust audience occupancy in Hyderabad despite facing box-office competition from Vishwanath & Sons.

Produced by Vishesh Films on an estimated budget of less than Rs 50 crore, the sequel recouped nearly half of its production outlay on its very first day in theatres. Trade analysts estimate that the movie is on course to reach the Rs 50 crore mark in collections over its first weekend, which would allow the project to recover its entire production cost within days of release.

The film's commercial traction in South Indian theatrical circuits, particularly in Hyderabad, has added significant momentum to its overall opening figures. The positive turn at the box office comes despite the movie receiving mixed reviews from critics upon release.

The commercial response marks a significant reversal from the fate of the original 2007 film Awarapan, which was a box-office failure during its theatrical run. Over the past two decades, however, the original project developed a dedicated cult following driven by its music, emotional narrative, and Hashmi’s performance.

Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 features Hashmi reprising his role as Shivam Pandit. The project had witnessed strong advance bookings in the lead-up to its debut, aided by interest surrounding the film's music, including the track Yeh Awarapan sung by Arijit Singh.

Trade circles are closely monitoring the remainder of the first weekend box office collections to determine the film's long-term commercial trajectory.
