Animal Welfare Groups Rescue 5 Cobras from Shalibanda and Moghalpura

Five captive cobras being displayed for money on the occasion of Naga Panchami were rescued from the Shalibanda and Moghalpura areas of the Old City on Monday during a joint drive by animal protection groups.

The rescue operation was conducted by the Greater Hyderabad Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals alongside People for Animals. According to a statement, three of the five snakes were recovered from Shalibanda, while the remaining two were rescued from Moghalpura. The cobras had been kept in captivity and were being shown around to the public in exchange for money during the festival.

Following their rescue, all five reptiles were immediately shifted for medical examinations and necessary treatment. Veterinary assessments revealed varying conditions among the rescued snakes. Two of the cobras were found to be healthy and fit for release, while two others required approximately 10 days of medical support and observation. One cobra was found in critical condition and remains under treatment.

The animal welfare groups stated that the snakes will be released into their natural habitat once they have undergone proper veterinary assessments. A total of 35 volunteers took part in the rescue and awareness operations conducted across the city.
