Amgen Signs MoU to Set Up Research Centre at Genome Valley in Hyderabad

Global biotechnology company Amgen signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Telangana state government on Tuesday to set up a new research and innovation centre at Genome Valley in Hyderabad. The MoU was executed in the presence of Information Technology Minister D Sridhar Babu at the Secretariat.

Officials stated that the new facility is expected to become operational in 2027. Once functional, it will form part of Amgen's global research and development network, which comprises seven research laboratories worldwide. The centre is designed to bring together scientists and technologists to conduct work in discovery chemistry, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, and precision medicine.

Addressing the gathering, Minister D Sridhar Babu said the facility will create job opportunities for highly skilled professionals while adding momentum to Hyderabad's growth as a global hub for advanced life sciences research. He requested Amgen leadership to give priority to local youth and talent from Telangana during recruitment for the proposed facility, ensuring that young professionals from the state gain access to high-value employment.

The minister also recalled that Amgen had recently set up a Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad that currently employs around 3,000 people. He noted that this existing presence reflects the company's confidence in the city's infrastructure, talent pool, and life sciences ecosystem.
