Amara Raja commissions ₹500 crore lithium-ion cell plant in Divitipally

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy recently inaugurated a new ₹500 crore Lithium-ion Customer Qualification Plant (CQP) set up by Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT) at its upcoming Giga corridor in Divitipally, Mahabubnagar district. The commissioning of this facility marks a significant step in advancing India’s lithium-ion battery manufacturing capabilities, with cell supply to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers scheduled to begin in August 2026.
The newly commissioned CQP is a major component of Amara Raja’s wider ₹9,500 crore, 16 GWh gigafactory program. It also represents a portion of the company’s Phase 1 investment of more than ₹1,500 crore in Telangana.
With an initial capacity of 60 MWh, the plant currently employs more than 100 people. The facility is designed to produce lithium-ion cells in both cylindrical and prismatic formats, utilizing multiple chemistries to meet diverse customer needs.
These cells will be supplied to OEM customers starting in August 2026. This supply will allow customers to conduct testing, qualification, and approval processes prior to the commencement of high-volume production.
The CQP is designed to bridge the gap between laboratory research and commercial-scale manufacturing. It will enable the validation of manufacturing processes before the company scales up to Giga 1.
Giga 1 will serve as Amara Raja’s first 2 GWh commercial cell facility. It is scheduled to commence commercial operations in June-July 2027.
The establishment of this plant at the Divitipally Giga corridor is expected to set the stage for commercial cell production next year, strengthening the local industrial ecosystem in the Mahabubnagar district.
