AIMIM Expels Telangana MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig Over Alleged Video Controversy

HYDERABAD — The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has expelled its Member of Legislative Council (MLC), Mirza Rahmath Baig, with immediate effect following controversy surrounding an alleged video involving him.

In a late-night statement issued on Friday, AIMIM Joint Secretary S.A. Hussain Anwar announced Baig's expulsion from the party. The party leadership directed Baig to immediately submit his resignation as a member of the Telangana Legislative Council to the Chairman.

The party did not disclose specific details about the contents of the alleged video or provide further grounds for the disciplinary action beyond referencing the controversy. The decision quickly triggered widespread discussion across political and social media circles.

The disciplinary action follows a complaint Baig reportedly lodged with the cybercrime police. In his complaint, Baig alleged that certain individuals were blackmailing him and demanding large sums of money while threatening to release a purported deepfake video of him. Police have not publicly shared the contents of the video or the specifics of the complaint.

Meanwhile, a video recorded in Saudi Arabia, where Baig had traveled to perform Umrah, surfaced online. In the recording, the MLC addressed the controversy directly, claiming the circulating footage was completely fake and generated using artificial intelligence to defame his character.

As of Saturday, Baig had not submitted his resignation to the Chairman of the Telangana Legislative Council. After meeting party leaders, the legislator reportedly remained incommunicado through Saturday evening.
