Additional CP M Srinivas Inspects Hyderabad Cyber Crimes Unit

Additional Commissioner of Police (SIT and Crimes) M. Srinivas on Sunday conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Cyber Crimes Unit in Hyderabad to strengthen the response to emerging cyber threats. The operational review was aimed at tackling complex offenses, including artificial intelligence-enabled scams, fake dating apps, trading and investment frauds, and digital arrest scams.

During the inspection of the facility in Hyderabad, Srinivas reviewed various functional aspects of the Cyber Crimes Unit. His review covered overall case pendency, digital forensic capabilities, staff deployment, and the operational efficiency of the dedicated 1930 Cyber Crime Helpline.

Following the assessment, Additional CP Srinivas issued clear instructions and targeted guidelines focusing on key priority areas to the ACP/SHO, Cyber Crimes, and investigative teams. Addressing the cybercrime officers directly, he stressed the critical need to accelerate investigations, particularly in high-value cyber fraud cases, to ensure the timely delivery of justice to victims.

To improve success in court, Srinivas emphasised the importance of strengthening digital evidence collection. He instructed officers to ensure meticulous legal documentation during probes to secure high conviction rates.

The additional DCP noted that inter-agency coordination has been enhanced with banks, payment gateways, and financial institutions to assist in the immediate freezing and recovery of defrauded funds.

Action is also being taken on long-standing cases following the instructions of City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar. Cybercrime teams have started implementing robust tracking mechanisms to effectively monitor and systematically dispose of long-pending cases.

Srinivas further emphasised that the Cyber Crimes Unit must maintain a proactive, swift, and victim-centric approach. He instructed officers to maintain a strong focus on fund recovery, technical accuracy, and preventive public outreach to effectively combat cybercrime in the city.
