ACB Takes DSP Bheem Reddy into Custody from Chanchalguda Jail in DA Case

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Thursday took Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sankireddy Bheem Reddy into two-day custody from Chanchalguda Central Jail in Hyderabad for interrogation in a disproportionate assets case. An ACB court granted the custodial interrogation after investigators uncovered alleged benami holdings and assets with a market value exceeding Rs 200 crore.

Bheem Reddy, currently associated with the Police Computer Services wing, was arrested last month following a major investigation into allegations that he had accumulated wealth far beyond his known sources of income. He previously served in various postings across the state, including as Jedcherla Circle Inspector and Patancheru DSP.

The case against the officer was registered under Sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Following the initial allegations, the ACB conducted simultaneous searches at 16 locations linked to Bheem Reddy, his family members, associates, and alleged benamidars across both Telangana and Karnataka.

During the searches conducted in July, investigators unearthed details of an extensive property portfolio across Hyderabad, other parts of Telangana, and Karnataka. The properties included a villa at Vessella Meadows, several residential flats, commercial spaces, and agricultural land. Among the real estate holdings, officials identified around 44 acres of agricultural land in Karnataka and one acre near the Bengaluru airport allegedly held through benamidars.

In addition to real estate, the raids yielded substantial physical assets and financial holdings. ACB officials seized approximately two kilograms of gold ornaments, 20 kilograms of silver articles, Rs 3.6 lakh in cash from Bheem Reddy’s residence, and Rs 40 lakh from the residence of an alleged benamidar. Further investigations revealed nearly Rs 19.91 lakh in bank balances alongside an investment of about Rs 75 lakh in a mineral company.

A significant lead in the ongoing probe came from a diary allegedly maintained by Bheem Reddy. The diary contained details of various properties and names of alleged benamidars, enabling investigators to track down additional assets and carry out targeted searches at linked locations.

During the two-day custodial questioning, ACB investigators are expected to focus on identifying the specific sources of funds used to purchase the assets. The interrogation will also focus on unraveling the alleged benami transactions, tracing corporate investments, and verifying the identities of individuals through whom the assets were reportedly held.
