ABVP Protests at TGCHE in Hyderabad Over Rs 11,000 Crore Fee Reimbursements

Tension build-up at the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) in Hyderabad on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, as Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists staged a major protest. The demonstration was organized to demand the immediate release of pending tuition fee reimbursements and scholarship dues from the state government. Additionally, the student organization demanded that the government ensure no tuition fees are charged from students at the time of their admission.

A large number of student activists gathered at the TGCHE office, where the situation quickly escalated. Protesters attempted to force their way into the council building, and several activists climbed onto the main gate in an effort to gain entry. Police forces deployed at the venue swung into action to block the demonstrators, preventing them from entering the council premises.

During the confrontation, the ABVP activists alleged that the police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. The action led to further tension and outrage among the protesting students.

Condemning the police action, ABVP State Secretary Macharla Rambabu accused the Congress government of working against the interests of the students. He alleged that the state government is conspiring to completely scrap the existing fee reimbursement and scholarship schemes.

Rambabu further blamed the state government for its handling of the situation, pointing out that the administration allowed the fee reimbursement dispute to escalate and reach the High Court. He accused the government of creating widespread confusion among the student community by repeatedly issuing new orders and continuously obstructing the ongoing admission process.

The ABVP declared that they will not back down and vowed to continue their agitation across the state. The student wing threatened to sustain their protests until the government clears the pending scholarship and fee reimbursement arrears, which they state have accumulated to Rs 11,000 crore.
