A total of 990 motorists were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol during a special law enforcement crackdown conducted across the Tri-Commissionerates of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri from June 21 to June 27. The joint initiative by the regional traffic police forces targeted violators to enforce a zero-tolerance policy toward drunk driving.

In Malkajgiri, the traffic police booked 296 motorists during its week-long special drive running from June 21 to June 27. The offenders in this jurisdiction comprised 249 two-wheeler riders, 14 three-wheeler drivers, 32 four-wheeler drivers, and one heavy vehicle driver.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad traffic police registered the highest number of cases during the crackdown, booking 394 motorists during a targeted two-day drive on June 26 and June 27. The violators booked by Hyderabad police included 326 two-wheeler riders, 30 three-wheeler drivers, and 38 drivers of four-wheelers and other vehicles.

In the Cyberabad commissionerate, traffic police apprehended 300 offenders. This group of violators consisted of 259 two-wheeler riders, six three-wheeler drivers, 34 four-wheeler drivers, and one heavy vehicle driver.

According to traffic officials, many of the stopped motorists across the three commissionerates were found with blood alcohol concentration levels exceeding 300 mg/100 ml, which is significantly over the legal limit.

All 990 offenders will be produced before their respective courts for legal proceedings.

Traffic authorities issued a stern warning following the drive, stating that motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol and cause fatal road accidents will be prosecuted under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. This charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine.

The traffic police urged all motorists to refrain from drinking and driving, reiterating that these special enforcement operations will continue across the three commissionerates to improve overall road safety.
