95 of Top 100 TG EAPCET 2026 Rankers Skip Telangana Engineering Counselling

95 of Top 100 TG EAPCET 2026 Rankers Skip Telangana Engineering Counselling

On June 24, 2026, web-based counselling registration data revealed that the vast majority of top rankers from the TG EAPCET 2026 engineering stream have bypassed state engineering colleges in Hyderabad and across Telangana. Instead, these high-scoring students are opting to join premier national institutes like the IITs and NITs.

According to the official registration details, only five of the top 100 rankers decided to participate in the state’s admission process. The trend of shunning local colleges continued among other high achievers, with only 42 candidates who secured a rank between 101 and 500 applying for admission.

In total, out of the students ranked up to 10,000, only 6,691 registered for the engineering counselling. This left a staggering 3,309 top-ranked students who chose to stay away from the state's web-based counselling process entirely.

This massive turnout deficit among top students occurred despite the Telangana State government's incentive of offering full fee reimbursement to any student securing a TG EAPCET rank below 10,000. Despite this provision, the highest-performing candidates opted not to register.

According to officials, these top rankers likely secured high ranks in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) as well. This allowed them to opt for admissions to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), or other premier engineering institutions across the country.

Officials also indicated that several toppers take the TG EAPCET primarily as a practice test for the JEE Main and Advanced exams, rather than intending to enroll in local state colleges.
