949 Motorists Caught Drunk Driving Across Hyderabad Commissionerates

Traffic police across the Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri commissionerates caught 949 motorists driving under the influence of alcohol during special enforcement drives conducted over the weekend. Two-wheeler riders accounted for nearly 80 percent of the total offenders booked during the enforcement operations, which concluded on August 8.

In Hyderabad commissionerate limits, officers apprehended 421 drivers during a two-day special drive held on August 7 and August 8. Cyberabad Traffic Police caught 311 offenders during the same two-day period. Meanwhile, Malkajgiri Traffic Police booked 217 motorists during a week-long drive conducted between August 2 and August 8.

Out of the combined 949 cases registered across all three commissionerates, 759 involved two-wheelers, 127 involved four-wheelers, 61 involved three-wheelers, and two involved heavy vehicles.

In the Hyderabad drive, 344 of the 421 offenders were riding two-wheelers, 37 were in three-wheelers, and 40 were driving four-wheelers or other vehicles. Blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels among Hyderabad offenders ranged from 30 mg to above 300 mg per 100 ml of blood. In Cyberabad, 238 of the 311 booked offenders were two-wheeler riders, followed by 56 four-wheeler drivers, 16 three-wheeler drivers, and one heavy-vehicle driver. A total of 255 offenders in Cyberabad recorded BAC levels between 36 mg and 200 mg per 100 ml.

In Malkajgiri, police caught 177 two-wheeler riders, 31 four-wheeler drivers, eight three-wheeler drivers, and one heavy-vehicle driver. Among the 217 offenders booked in Malkajgiri, 205 showed BAC levels between 36 mg and 200 mg per 100 ml.

The enforcement drives coincided with local courts disposing of hundreds of drunk-driving cases. In Malkajgiri courts, 265 cases were disposed of during the week, resulting in six individuals receiving both fines and jail terms, 25 being assigned social service along with fines, and 234 receiving fines.

In Cyberabad, courts cleared 283 cases between August 3 and August 8, sentencing one person to jail along with a fine, ordering 11 to perform social service and pay fines, and fining 271 others. Traffic police stated that special enforcement drives will continue and urged commuters to cooperate with personnel.
