84-Year-Old Patient Inspires STAR Hospitals Staff with 1962 War Memory

An 84-year-old patient undergoing intensive medical treatment in Hyderabad moved doctors, nurses, and hospital staff by recalling how she donated her wedding ring to the National Defence Fund during the 1962 Sino-Indian War.

Seetharavamma, who is currently receiving care in the Intensive Care Unit at STAR Hospitals under Dr. Chandana Reddy, shared the memory of personal sacrifice made by her family during the nationwide crisis decades ago.

During the height of the 1962 conflict, the Indian government had issued an appeal to citizens across the country to contribute resources to support the armed forces through the National Defence Fund. In response, numerous families came forward to assist the war effort.

Seetharavamma recounted that her family joined the effort, and she willingly parted with her cherished wedding ring without hesitation to donate it toward the national cause.

The recollection deeply touched the medical team attending to her in the hospital. Medical personnel noted that hearing the octogenarian describe the defining moment offered an inspiring example of duty and devotion.

Dr. Chandana Reddy stated that while the medical team witnesses strength and resilience daily in the ICU, Seetharavamma's account of surrendering something as sentimental as a wedding ring for the country moved the entire team to tears. She added that it was a privilege to care for a patient whose life embodied such patriotism across generations.

The clinical team at STAR Hospitals is continuing to provide comprehensive medical care for Seetharavamma as she undergoes treatment in the ICU.
