500 Property Owners Hold Hunger Strike at Karkhana Over Rajiv Rahadari Corridor

Over 500 property owners affected by land acquisition for the Rajiv Rahadari elevated corridor project held a one-day hunger strike at Karkhana in Secunderabad Cantonment on Tuesday. The protesters demanded that the Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri district administrations provide fair compensation to all land losers impacted by the road infrastructure project.

The hunger strike was organised to address grievances surrounding the construction of the elevated corridor, which is planned to stretch between Gymkhana Grounds and ORR Shamirpet. Protesters participating in the demonstration included owners of commercial establishments who have been running businesses along Rajiv Rahadari for the past six decades.

Satish Gupta, president of the Rajiv Rahadari Joint Action Committee (JAC), stated that the Deeksha was held to press authorities for fair monetary relief. Gupta noted that over the past few months, revenue officials from both the Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri collectorates have been acquiring land and distributing compensation, despite the land acquisition matter remaining sub-judice.

Overall, an estimated 1,500 to 2,000 families are expected to be impacted by the land acquisition required for the elevated corridor development.
