26 Telangana Natives Identified in Nepal Floods as Families Await Updates

Families and friends of Telangana natives stranded in Nepal following flash floods and disruptions on August 26 are struggling for information about their loved ones, relying on government agencies and informal messaging groups after days of lost communication.

S. Laxminarayana, Assistant Secretary to the Telangana government, confirmed that 26 natives of Telangana have been identified in connection with the situation in Nepal. He noted that difficult geographical conditions on the ground represent the biggest factor complicating efforts to identify and trace missing persons.

Among those awaiting word are relatives of Arushi Gupta, who has lived in Hyderabad for the past five years. Her uncle, Subir Jha, said the family last spoke with her on the morning of August 22 while she was staying in the affected region, and they are now coordinating through the helpline established at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi and local tour operators.

Concerns have also been raised over Gopi Krishnamoorthy, a Hyderabad-born Australian citizen who travelled to Nepal from Australia with the Isha Foundation. His friend Chandra said there had been no contact for around three days and urged authorities to clarify whether Australian officials had been notified, citing worries over unverified information circulating online.

Another family is searching for Kandimalla Suhasini Reddy, whose father said she flew from Delhi to Kathmandu on August 23 and has not been heard from since the evening of August 25. Additionally, relatives of eight Indian-origin United States nationals, primarily with roots in Telangana and Karnataka, made an urgent appeal for help after the group became uncontactable near the Rasuwagadhi Immigration Office along the Nepal-China border on August 26 while travelling to Mount Kailash-Mansarovar.

In some relief, a note from Telangana Bhavan confirmed that the family of Alli Ilesha, who was among those stranded, established contact with him and expected his arrival in Hyderabad.

Officials at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi stated they are maintaining continuous coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, and Nepal Police to trace individuals linked to Telangana, assist with safe travel, and support the identification and repatriation of mortal remains.
