18-Year-Old BTech Student Dies by Suicide at Shaikpet Women's Hostel

An 18-year-old BTech student died by suicide inside her room at a women’s hostel in Shaikpet on Monday.

The deceased was identified as K Kalpana, a native of Peruru village in Mahabubnagar district. She was residing in Hyderabad while pursuing her BTech degree at a local college.

According to the police, hostel staff discovered Kalpana hanging inside her room and alerted the authorities.

Following the incident, the student's father, Ramanjaneyulu, lodged a complaint with the police against the hostel authorities. He alleged that the hostel management had recently reprimanded Kalpana after she questioned the poor quality of food being served at the accommodation.

Ramanjaneyulu stated that the rebuke caused his daughter significant mental distress, which he alleged led to her decision to take her own life.

Police have registered a case based on the complaint and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
