14-Year-Old Student Dies in Baswapuram After RMP Administers Injection

A 14-year-old Class 8 student died on Sunday after allegedly suffering severe breathing difficulties immediately following an injection administered by a local Registered Medical Practitioner (RMP) at Baswapuram in Khammam district. Her family members have lodged an official complaint with the police, accusing the practitioner of gross negligence during her treatment.

The deceased teenager has been identified as Challa Hema Sri, daughter of Challa Ramesh and Mounika. She was studying at the local Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya.

According to Konijerla Sub-Inspector G Suraj, Hema Sri developed a cold and fever on Sunday. Following the onset of symptoms, her parents took her to Maruthi Sampath, an RMP doctor in the village, for medical treatment.

The family alleged in their complaint that the practitioner administered an injection to the girl during the visit. Almost immediately after receiving the injection, Hema Sri suddenly developed difficulty in breathing, and her physical condition worsened rapidly.

Seeing her state deteriorate, her family members rushed her to a private hospital in Khammam for emergency care. Upon her arrival, doctors at the private facility conducted an ECG and declared her dead.

Hema Sri’s parents further alleged to the police that the RMP doctor was under the influence of alcohol while treating their daughter. They claimed that the injection was followed almost immediately by her severe breathing distress and her subsequent death.

Addressing the family's claims, Konijerla SI G Suraj confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated that the specific allegations of negligence and intoxication made against the RMP doctor are yet to be established.
